It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas?

I walked into Big Lots today and I was amazed. Simply amazed. There are Christmas Trees in the aisles.

No no… don’t look back, I did, in fact, say CHRISTMAS TREES.

It’s AUGUST!

Does this mean we’re going to have to endure four months of Christmas HELL before the holiday this year? Oh gee, the heck with Labor Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving, let’s just move straight to Christmas. Do the retailers honestly believe I’m going to spend more money just because they put up some Christmas trees in the middle of the summer? Hell no, it makes me not want to go back!

Christmas is waaay to overcommercialized anymore. It’s not the same holiday it used to be when I was kid. It’s lost it’s luster, it’s magic, it’s fantasy. Yeah, it’s still cool getting gifts and picking out cool stuff for your family and friends…. but I don’t want to be greeting with a big hearty HO HO HO when it’s 100 degrees outside.

This is one of the things I would change if I actually did have a marketing job, like my college degree qualifies me for. Christmas time would start the day after Thanksgiving. No trees would go up in my stores until then.

So, retailers? Why Christmas in August? Do you think we’ll forget about the heat and humidity and get all wrapped up in the Ho Ho Ho season? Or is it because the kids have gone back to school early, you can’t have “Back To School” sales anymore? Now it’s time for Christmas sales?

It makes me sick.

Bah Humbug.
