Where in the hell are all the trees?

I thought I moved way out in the country to get away from it all… but I guess I was just kidding myself. I knew it would happen sooner or later

Commercialization is coming to my neck of the woods.

I guess it’s not that bad, now Publix is just down the street instead of 10 miles away. My frozen dinners don’t defrost on the ride home anymore…. and now if I’m hungry, I finally have more choices than just Domino’s. There’s a Subway, and a Chinese place, and a Beef O’Brady’s. Oh, and of course, Publix. Wow. What selection.

The thing I hate the most though, is that these developers buy this land and the mow down ALL the trees. They don’t even leave one standing. Here I am trying to grow trees on my lot, and they’re clearing entire acres worth of old trees in one fell swoop.

Leave some trees dammit. And you wonder why we have such an air quality problem? You’re destroying the “air filters!”

I’m actually home this week, and I noticed on my way to the office yesterday that they’re building another Kroger (For God’s Sake!). Of course, it wasn’t the big Kroger sign I noticed first…I noticed that right after I said out loud to myself…. “Where in the hell are all of the trees?”

They cleared an entire corner of all the trees. It looks like one big angry red scar on the face of the planet right now. Why didn’t the developers leave a few trees? Maybe in the corners, or near the building that exists RIGHT on the corner… it’s not like they’re going to be able to build anything right there anyway.

In other countries they don’t allow such clear-cutting…. you have to go in and only remove what you need to. That’s the way it should work here. Trees provide shade, and cover from the hot sun…. parking lots provide a lot of reflective heat…. it might help keep it cooler. Trees also “breathe” carbon dioxide and “exhale” clean oxygen. Something I’m sure we all can agree on needing.

Personally, it’s my reason for “urban sprawl”…. I don’t WANT to be near where all the commercialization is. I want to be near the trees. While it’s quite nice to be close to a Publix, I didn’t mind driving 10 miles to get to the closest one…. But maybe if more trees were left, I might “forget” that I’m in a developed area…. and not “sprawl” further out into the country.
