Okay, okay, so you guys missed me for a week. Boo-hoo.

I took another trip to N’awlins…. and had a blast. Took care of my best customer while I was there. They’re awesome! If you’re ever in Slidell or Covington Louisiana, eat at Moe’s. Ask for the owner and tell ‘em Kyle sent ya!

This was a good trip, I had plenty of time to eat a decent meal or two, had a lot of fun with existing friends and made a couple of new ones. Best of all? I got paid to do it!

This time, I was in a suburb of New Orleans, called Covington. It’s near the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain and it is a very beautiful part of Louisiana (Best part? It’s not too terribly far from the French Quarter… maybe 45 minutes or so). I hear housing is dirt cheap there. The owner’s cousin was here at this opening too, and he’s also from Atlanta. He’s moving from the ATL to the area where this store was, and he gave me a rough estimate of how much more house his money was buying…. I could live in something twice as big as my house here in Georgia, for the same amount of money…. with even the same amount of land around it! Definitely something to research. I know Louisiana doesn’t have the best schools, but man, it sure is fun down there. As often as I travel, it doesn’t really matter where my house is… I’m hardly ever there anyway.

What’s interesting is even though unemployment is very high there, people still don’t apply for jobs as they become available! Everyone had “Now Hiring” signs out, and I kept hearing about how bad unemployment was. Is being on welfare so great that people won’t even go out and get the jobs that are available? I can’t believe that. Only reason the economy is so “bad” is because people are too lazy to get out there and WORK!

The most incredible ride I had there was driving across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. This 24-mile long bridge which consists of two, 2-lane spans running parallel across Lake Pontchartrain connecting Jefferson Parish on the South Shore and St. Tammany Parish on the North Shore. Yes, I said 24-mile bridge. Once you get a couple miles onto the bridge, you can look around you and all you see is the Causeway and WATER. No land. It’s freaky.

On another note, my rental car this time was a Buick LeSabre… not that it’s any chick-magnet or anything, but I had a chance to check out XM Radio. I was not particularly impressed. While it was kind of neat that there was an all 80′s station that played no commericals and no DJ’s… and there were a couple of classic rock channels I liked… the problem was that everytime I went under a bridge, into a gas station, or even under a big tree, I lost the signal and had no radio. Why would you pay $10 a month for this? There’s a perfectly good radio station here in Atlanta that plays the classic rock I like (as well as some current stuff) with no annoying DJ’s and only a few commericals an hour…. and it’s FREE! It’s called Dave. I’m not sure why, but Dave is cool.

Going back to N’awlins… while I was there, I met two really cool chicks…. Melanie and Angel. They were a blast to be around while I was there, and I’ll be looking forward to going back someday… Two totally cool, down-to-earth people who seem to be having a good time with life…. the kind of people who make you glad you’re there. It was loads of fun…. Keep in touch, “Pun’kin” and “Angle”!

Well, that was pretty much my week in New Orleans…. lots of fun, some work, and a lot of Jack and Coke…. until next time, boys and girls….
