What ever happened to Parental Responsibilities?

We live in a world where apparently people want the government to legislate everything from whether or not we say the words “Under God” in the pledge of allegiance to limiting sex and violence on TV.

Here’s what I say…. “Parents…. GROW UP”. It is not my responsibility to raise your child. It is not your neighbors responsibility to raise your child, it is not your government’s responsibility to raise your child. You birthed it, you raise it.

Why do parents consistently feel that they are so ill prepared to take care of their own children that they need legislation to regulate what their kids see, hear, and do? It’s not as if, once a law is enacted, the desire will go away. There’s underground forums, and if your child really wants to see that picture of an ugly naked guy, she or he will find it. If something comes on TV or the radio that you don’t want to see, CHANGE the channel. It’s not that difficult, I know, I can do it, so can you. This would be especially true in today’s world of remote controls.

What is so wrong with saying the words “Under God” in the pledge of allegiance? It doesn’t say which god. If someone objects that vehemently to saying those words, just keep your mouth shut!

The problem lies in that parents baby their children and try to protect them from everything. Nothing is more irritating than being late to work and getting stuck in elementary or junior high school traffic. Yes, I said elementary or junior high school traffic. I don’t remember there being a traffic jam outside my elementary school or junior high. Oh wait, that’s right…. we all rode THE BUS. What ever happened to THE BUS? The big yellow cheese? When I was their age, I rode the bus to school, and now you have every parent taking their children to class everyday, clogging up the roads, contributing to the pollution problem (oh, please legislate the exhaust that cars put out, but don’t touch my 8 gallon to the mile SUV).

Parents need to take more responsibility of their children. It’s not anyone’s job other than their own to raise their kids. I’m sure teachers are behind me 100%. I hear all kinds of stories about parents dropping their kids off at school and letting the teachers sort them out. That is unacceptable. I swear I will not raise my children this way, and I hope the rest of you who still have a chance, join me.
