Good Morning Arkansas
Boy, I had always heard that Little Rock was a backwards town, and hence Arkansas was a backwards state, but I didn’t realize how true that was! Now before you Arkansas readers get your panties in a wad, let me explain….
No state that wants to promote tourism should ever charge a 32% (yes, that’s thirty-two percent) sales tax on liquor… Some of you might claim it’s a “sin” tax…. then explain to me why the beer and wine sales tax is 8.6% and the food tax/general sales tax rate is 11%?
Why would you do this to yourselves? I just don’t understand why any state would want to discourage tourism this way…. as most of you know, I’m a “Jack and Coke” guy… but this week I’ve been drinking beer because there’s no way I’m going to pay 33% more for my drink than I would back home.
Ugh.
Anyway, last night I went to this “bar” called the Fox and the Hound where we ran into another Arkansasism. In order to stay open past eleven, they have to consider themselves a private club. So, in order for us to get in (I’m travelling with one of my co-workers, John)…. one of us had to “buy” a membership for five dollars…. and as a bonus with our membership, we got a free five dollar gift certificate. Gee, that makes the membership free. What the hell is the point?
But I digress , I did have fun… there were plenty of hot women to look at, and it was karioke night, it’s fun to watch people make fools of themselves. John did a song, and wasn’t too bad.
After drinking all that beer last night though, I’m not feeling so hot this morning…. guess it’s time to take that shower and get ready to face the day.
