Rants & Raves from Madison Wisconsin
Well, I just got home from Madison, Wisconsin… land of the cows, home of the cheese. An overall, interesting experience, I must say. It’s another college town, which makes me long for those days all over.
One problem with Madison is parking and their love of one-way streets and streets that cars can’t drive on. Finding anything downtown is like finding a needle in a haystack, which obviously, they are used to doing up there. In less than one hour after my arrival in downtown Madison, I managed to get a parking ticket. Yes, I ran into Madison’s finest because of an expired meter.
I thought I had it timed well… I knew exactly how much time I had left, so I ran back from my customers site to go feed the meter again… and when I show up, there’s this bitch-cop standing next to my rental, writing up the ticket. I made a comment about how the meter can’t be expired yet, but sure enough, it was… I swear their 46 minutes must be less than the 46 minutes on my watch. She says “Well, I don’t stand here waiting for them to expire”…. and I’m thinking “Bullshit, lady… you know you do… that meter can’t have been expired more than a minute.” But instead of voicing that comment, I just take the ticket in disgust and said “Yeah, I’ll bet”. So, it’s gonna cost 10 bux… I thought about not paying it, but then I figured Avis would probably just turn my name and address over to the Madison PD… and if they’re so intent on waiting for meters to expire, I’m sure they’d come after me.
Anyway, I also learned that Madison is liberal-ville. There’s Kerry-Edwards signs everywhere. I mentioned to one girl I’ve already sent my absentee ballot in for Bush and she went crazy…. ugh, I can’t stand Bush-bashers. Like it or not, he’s our president. Deal with it. At least Bush has a set of balls… where’s Kerry’s?
Interestingly enough, Madison is also home of the moped. On my way into downtown, I saw one… Bill, my fellow co-worker who was with me, made the comment that a moped wouldn’t be too useful up there during the winter. We both laughed at the guy riding the moped. Then, we pulled into downtown and mopeds were everywhere! I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many mopeds at one time in my life! Now the big question is, what do they do with the mopeds when it’s icy on the roads and there’s snow everywhere?
Even though Madison’s a college town, not too much fun to be had during the week… it was kind of dead most of the time…. except at the customer’s site. They were slammed.
Next week… Kansas.
