August 6, 2005 - All Bisch, All Day - 24 Hours, 48 Entries.
Tune in to TheBisch next Saturday, August 6, beginning at 9 am Eastern for 24 hours of me, raw, unedited, and uncensored, as I struggle to keep posting once every half-hour in the name of charity.
No, charity isn’t the name of a love interest, or ex-girlfriend… Think of good causes! In this case, the good cause is AnySoldier.com.
AnySoldier.com features emails from different military personnel regarding the type of support needed in the field. The support could be in the form of a simple letter or package, or it could toiletries, food or even newspapers and magazines. Donors address their letters and packages to the writer’s name, but also add the words “ATTN: Any Soldier” on the second line. The writer shares the mail with fellow servicemen and women. If there is “any soldier” who is not receiving a lot of mail from home, that soldier will be the first person to receive the letter.
So, what do they need cash donations for? Besides the obvious of running their great website, here’s some efforts AnySoldier.com has participated in for our soldiers.
- Donated $1,000 toward the building of indoor plumbing for an orphanage in Afghanistan. This was a project undertaken by an Army Warrant Officer.
- Sent two multi-fuel stoves to a remote unit in Afghanistan so they could cook anything.
- Purchased 900 care packages aimed at the contacts who report little or no response from supporters or have had a large loss of items (such as a fire on the base).
- Purchased 3 complete computer stations for a unit so they can have a learning center.
- Purchased and sent 100 American flags to a unit requesting them.
Don’t be cheap! Click on the banner above and sponsor my effort! Any donation helps, from five dollars to five thousand. Let’s show our soldiers the support they deserve!
Got lots of cash laying around? Go check out Mangos Blog and This Blog Is Full of Crap for other charities you can support for the Blogathon.

Good luck on your fundraiser. At work we have “adopted” a unit serving in Iraq. We send thenm care packages and letters and photos and they reply when they can. The conditions they serve in are sometimes horrendous.
I commiserate with you on your Dead Pool success. My picks seem to be assured of a long life as well.
