I bulked just like you and then watched the first movie. I was hooked after that. They are really good reads. And the imagination of the setting is awesome. I'm not crazy about them but they are worth owning.

What is the deal with being out at midnight for these books? They will be everywhere the next day.

In fact, I saw this book at Winn-freaking-Dixie.

As a marketing guy, I love the machine behind this franchise.

PS - it is for kids, whether you like reading it or not. I like Spongebob, but at least I admit it's for kids.

Peri - No, it's not just mommie bloggers reading it... there's a lot of folks reading Harry Potter.

Amy & BS - I don't question if the author is a good writer... there are many good writers, but why is there an obsession by many over a book about sorcerers, witches, and demons and what is essentially a children's book? I don't understand how so many adults can get excited over a book that's obviously intended for children. It's like getting excited over the latest Barney video.

oh my am I glad you said it first........ Is there a connection between mommie bloggers and Harry Potter purchasers?

I think it is one of those wave trends, where the moms have to out do other moms......like the latest suv ....... it is a competition, who stood in line for the most hours, who stayed up later reading.. I even read where one mommie was reading the book for her second time........

Okay, first of all, I was COERCED into standing in line at midnight for the blasted book. It was totally against my will. I wanted to buy it the next morning, like a normal human being. :)

That being said, I didn't understand the phenomenon at first, but then I read the books at a friend's suggestion and fell in love with them. They're extremely well-written. I think adults actually get more out of them than children do. Rowling's an incredibly gifted writer.

Now, I can't explain the standing in line at midnight for the books. However, I will say they are well written, interesting and once you read one, you'll want to read the rest!

Give it a try! We didn't start reading them until a kid we met camping was listening to the books on CD - that got us hooked!
