Have you heard about this?
A rush to purchase $50 used laptops turned into a violent stampede Tuesday, with people getting thrown to the pavement, beaten with a folding chair and nearly driven over. One woman went so far to wet herself rather than surrender her place in line.
Thousands of people showed up for a county sale of school property, which consisted of 1,000 used, four year old, Apple iBook laptops that were being sold for 50 dollars a piece.
Who was the brain in charge of this catastrophe? Didn’t anyone have the foresight to know that a bunch of rednecks would turn out for an event like this? Never mind the fact that the systems are already four years old, and were probably outdated the day the school system bought them!
Nothing is worth peeing yourself over.
First of all, the laptops are iBooks. Who the hell uses an Apple anything anymore? The reason the school board was selling them was due the fact that they switched to Dell laptops, with a Windows-based environment. Then on top of that, even school officials admit the laptops are behind the times. “It’s rather strange that we would have such a tremendous response for the purchase of a laptop computer — and laptop computers that probably have less-than- desirable attributes,” said Paul Proto, director of general services for Henrico County.
There are stories all over the globe about how people were pushing, shoving, cutting in line, and even bashing others in the head with a folding chair just to get their hands on one of these cheap, piece of shit laptops.
Some weren’t even buying them for their own kids. I’ve heard several are now available on eBay, trying to make top dollar for their troubles.
What a great way to make Americans look stupid and greedy in the eyes of the world.

I read about that a couple of days ago. Madness. Especially when they were used computers, and who knows if something could be wrong with them.
People are nuts.

well it looks like it was worth it
the prices are 4x and sometimes a laptop is a laptop
and it’s nice to use it to check your mail in bed

I think I would draw the line at peeing on myself. Jeez. I’d just save up a few hundred and get a Dell instead.
