Ugh. Everywhere I go I see Christmas trees. It’s not even thanksgiving yet and there’s already Christmas trees. Heck, they were putting them up the day before Halloween! Thanksgiving stuff is already on clearance at all the retail stores.
What is the world coming to?
Christmas used to be a magical time of year… I used to enjoy the season, and look forward to Christmas and the presents it would bring… As I grew up, I also learned the joy of giving… it was exciting to me to buy a present and keep it a secret all month long until I could give it as a gift. Sometimes, I’d buy gifts just because… I also used to send out Christmas cards every year to friends and family. I’d decorate the house (at least on the outside) and put up a small Christmas tree inside. Once I was done, I’d enjoy the season and the decorations at least until New Years day. Then I’d take it all down and save it for next year.
Christmas isn’t like that for me anymore.
Retailers have finally succeeded, they have over commercilized Christmas. Now I dread seeing the Christmas trees going up in store after store… hate hearing Christmas music being played 24/7 on radio stations from now until Christmas. I don’t decorate the house, don’t send out cards… and only buy gifts for people I know are buying me one because I don’t want to go through that awkwardness of not having one. Some friends of mine and I have agreed not to exchange gifts anymore, for which I am glad. Christmas has lost it’s magic.
What holiday can they ruin next?
